A skillful and insightful Board Certified Optometrist with over 30 years of experience, Dr. Jon K. Batzer serves as the Director, Primary Care Services for Community Eye Center (CEC).

Offering the community of Southwest Florida quality eye care since 1987, Dr. Batzer has been integral to the growth of CEC. Beginning with one physician, Dr. Batzer has seen the practice to include nine physicians at multiple Southwest Florida locations, an eye only surgery center and optical services.

Constantly expanding his skills through learning and seeking knowledge, Dr. Batzer researches and evaluates information to stay on top the latest developments in optometry. Additionally, he is a published author on topics such as dry eye syndrome and vitreoretinal disorders.

Dr. Batzer brought his fervor for learning to Florida with him. Previous to his time with Community Eye Center he was Assistant Professor of Optometry and Module Chief in Primary Care at the Illinois College of Optometry. In this role, he was directly in charge of patient care, as well as clinical instruction of optometric student clinicians. In addition, he was a continuing education lecturer and practicing optometrist. He was also adjunct faculty of the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago where he was responsible for teaching ophthalmology residents in the contact lens clinic.

VENICE/PORT CHARLOTTE, FL— March 30, 2017 Community Eye Center and St. Lucy’s Eye Surgery Center’s Partners, Dr. Joseph Spadafora and Dr. Eric Schaible were honored as “Heroes” level Donor to the Charlotte Cares Campaign.  In addition to the Charlotte Cares Campaign, Community Eye Center was also recognized as a new Donor to CCF. The award is a part of the first annual Charlotte Cares Campaign for the Charlotte Community Foundation.  The Charlotte Cares Campaign was developed as an exciting new initiative led by the CCF.  The goal is to increase the amount of grant  funds available to qualifying nonprofit agencies in the Charlotte County community. “Without the help of our donors we would not be able to accomplish our goals.  We are grateful to Community Eye Center’s new partnership and look forward to what we can do and the changes that will be made by working together.”  Tami Sender. “By working together with one focus in mind – a better tomorrow for all – this is little we cannot accomplish,” states Ron Olson of Strang, Olson and Lynch, CCF Board Member, and Charlotte Cares Heroes Donor. “It is important for all of us at Community Eye Center and St. Lucy’s Eye Surgery Center to be a strong, giving and compassionate member of our community.  Charlotte Cares services people from all areas, all walks of life in all different circumstances but we are all a community working together for our greater good” stated Dr. Joseph Spadafora, Partner and Medical Director. JOSEPH W. SPADAFORA, D.O. (EYE SURGEON, MEDICAL DIRECTOR) Dr. Joseph Spadafora did his undergraduate studies at Boston University, followed by graduate work at the University of New Hampshire, Durham, NH.  He received his medical degree from the University  of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Kansas City, MO. He completed his internship at Metropolitan General Hospital in St. Petersburg, FL and his Ophthalmology Residency at Oklahoma Osteopathic Hospital in Tulsa, OK.  He was Fellowship Trained in Anterior Segment Surgery in Long Beach, CA. Dr. Spadafora is Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of South Florida, Tampa.  He is Board Certified and a member of the American Osteopathic Association, American Academy of Ophthalmology, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Charlotte County Medical Society and Florida Medical Society.  He is affiliated with all area hospitals and served on the Board of Governors of Prevent Blindness Florida Dr. Spadafora has performed National Research in ocular anti-inflammatory agents, glaucoma medications, ocular antibiotic agents, and laser cataract extraction at St. Lucy’s Eye Surgery Center. ERIC R. SCHAIBLE, M.D., F.A.C.S (EYE SURGEON, RESEARCH DIRECTOR) Dr. Eric R. Schaible received his Medical Degree, Magna Cum Laude, from Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, PA. He completed his Residency in Ophthalmology at South Carolina, Charleston where he was Chief Resident. Dr. Schaible has published research in Cataract Surgery, Neurosurgery, Corneal Surgery and Neuron-ophthalmology.  He is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is affiliated with all area hospitals. Dr. Schaible is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association, Charlotte Country Medical Society and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Schaible is a Cataract and Anterior Segment Specialist with interest in advance cataract surgery techniques.
